How to guide students on Eportfolio – Criteria D

Dear Teachers,

Today’s discussion will focus on the assessment of Criterion D: Reflecting and Improving Performance. We will use the example of “Beating Your Best,” a previous ePortfolio unit.

When discussing Criterion D, it’s important to note that students are required to reflect as both coaches and clients. This article aims to provide you with ideas on how to effectively guide students by offering details that facilitate their reflection process.

Eportfolio Criteria D

TASK 1 SPECIFIC CLARIFICATION 5 pages max   

Unit Title: Beating Your BestGlobal Context: Identities and relationships
Key Concept: ChangeRelated Concept: Choice
Area of Exploration: Students will explore identity; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities and cultures; what it means to be human.
ATL Skills:Self-Management:
❖ Organization Skills: managing time and tasks effectively
❖ Affective skills: Managing state of mind
❖ Reflection skills :(Re) Considering the process of learning. Develop new skills, techniques and strategies for  effective learning.Research Skills:
❖ Information Literacy skills: Finding, interpreting, judging and creating information
❖ Media Literacy Skills: Interacting with media to use and create ideas and information
Statement Of Inquiry: Different choices and attitudes can promote significant changes in health

Task Description: 

Task 4 – Criterion Di, ii, iii – Reflecting and Improving performance

As a Coach:

a)   Explain and demonstrate the strategies used to enhance interpersonal skills when working with the client from task 1 (negotiating the goals) and task 2 (ongoing feedback in your sessions as you implement your Program). Use the following questions as a guide and add any other ideas (Di):

  • What is the importance of interpersonal skills?
  • Which strategies did you apply to communicate and collaborate with your client?
  • Use examples from your Performance Development Plan.
  • How well did you apply the qualities of a good coach to improve social skills?
  • How did you negotiate with your client throughout the program?
  • What coaching style was implemented throughout the program? Why did you choose this style?
  • What strategies did you use to motivate your client during the session? Explain the impact of those strategies on the performance of your client.
  • How did you help your client overcome the factors that hindered their performance? 

b)  Once the programme has been finalised, you need to analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of your Performance Development Plan (Dii)

Using the evidence from your training program (PDP) answer the following (and other questions you might develop yourself):

How the goals were met – (Both physical and psychological goals) including

reference to:

▪ Pre-test (Initial results in task 1),

▪ Mid and Post Test (Test done in the middle and at the end/completion of

your Performance Development Programme).

▪ Present your data in tabular and graphical methods including an

explanation to show the relationship of the data presented.

▪ How did the modifications and changes made during the session assist

you to achieve the goals? Use specific examples to present your

understanding.

What you might do differently in the future if you were to repeat the coaching

programme.

▪ Coaching style,

▪ Training Method,

▪ Frequency of training (SPORT, FITT Principles)

▪ Any 2 Interpersonal skills,

▪ Time management and organisation,

▪ Selection of the session duration and choosing the right time for training i,e., Morning, Afternoon or Evening.

▪ Any additional information

The successes and challenges throughout the course of coaching your client.

▪ Be specific about your success and challenges based on your experience.

▪ Provide realistic solutions to your challenges.

▪ Any additional information.

As a Client

a)  Explain the strategies used to enhance interpersonal skills when working with the coach (Di).

  • Refer to the Learner Profile when discussing your interactions and feedback you gave to your coach in journal entries.

b)  Analyse and evaluate your final performance including the stated physical and health goals identified as the factors hindering your current level of performance (Diii)

  • Refer to your Task 3 video (breakdown your performance with respect to skills
  • and techniques step by step from your initial performance, through the PDP and post-performance).
  • What progress did you make with your stated goals?
  • Make suggestions on areas you are strong at (strengths) and those areas still need to be improved in your performance (weakness).
