MYP PHE UNIT – The Great Joy (Frisbee)

Hello Teachers,

Today, I am excited to share the summary of the Frisbee unit I am currently teaching to sixth grade and how I introduced the unit to my students. I have previously shared different ways to introduce a unit in articles that you can visit here. This time, we decided to use a different approach. Before delving into the main concepts of the unit, we chose to ask the students across the MYP Program the questions they had regarding the sport we were focusing on: What? Why? How? (Frisbee, Volleyball, Softball). It’s incredible how the students incorporated concepts into their questions, such as, “How do you collaborate with your teammates?” and “How do you communicate during the game?”

Let me take you through the process

First, we divided the students into groups and provided them with papers to brainstorm and share their questions

We then asked the students to share their questions with us, and we wrote them on the board so that together we could reflect and see how these questions can help us understand the games we are exploring and the best ways to seek answers.

This is a simple way to engage students at the beginning of the unit, making the learners share all their questions related to the concepts you are addressing and inviting them to reflect on how those questions can bring changes to their performance. We will explore these questions further and dive into the unit with all the concepts.

See below our summary unit.
